Stand

To be resolute in danger,
To be that mighty wall,
That keeps them all safe.

I will stand here till my last day,
Till my body has bled dry,
And my bones are but dust.

I will burn down the world,
And lay down my life,
To be your weapon.

Inspiration

I wrote Stand only minutes after Rematch. I had gotten into a little headspace where I wanted to put more powerful words onto paper, to be intense, to be heard.

Where Rematch came from a desire to fight back, Stand is about not backing down. It calls back a little to Heroes and Villains, taking the perspective of both the Hero and the Villain, blurring the lines a bit from what that poem described.

A Villain can be a Hero to some. And this Villain stood their ground until they couldn’t anymore, and then still stayed standing.
